On 10 July, Societe Generale was granted the Africa's Best Bank Award for Corporate Responsibility award, by Euromoney – the British finance magazine of reference for 50 years – during the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2019 dinner in London. This prize rewards the Bank's long-term commitment on the continent. Furthermore, Société Générale Algérie and Société Générale Côte d'Ivoire won the Best Bank Award for their respective country.

The long history shared between Societe Generale group and Africa roots in the financing of the real economy and the Group's loyalty to the continent and encourages the Bank to consider its development with responsibility. Societe Generale therefore chose to commit even more by including all the stakeholders who seek to meet the specific conditions from which the sustainable development of the African continent is supposed to be born from. In order to do so, the Grow with Africa initiative has been launched.

The Euromoney award especially rewards, within the framework of the Grow with Africa program, the reinforcement in accompanying Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) and our alternative banking model: YUP. Through these solutions, Societe Generale commits to the whole population of Africa, making banking services available for as many people as possible.

Societe Generale was also rewarded for its citizen commitment in Africa. With its collaborators' support, the Bank was able to forge local connections in the various countries where it operates. In order to develop citizenship actions on the continent, the Panafrican Charity Award was created in 2019 with the participation of the Societe Generale Foundation. This challenge encourages every African subsidiary to involve itself in a local charity, the main concerns being professional integration and financial inclusion.

Moreover, the Bank is committed to the development of women entrepreneurship in Africa. Convinced that the future of Africa can't be built without women, who are key players in the local economies, Societe Generale is a sponsor of the Women In Africa Foundation.

Finally, the Euromoney award also recognizes the Bank's commitment to its staff members in Africa as a responsible employer. Launched in 2018, the Diversity for Africa program aims to further promote the equitable professional development of women and men within the company, by promoting the feminisation of positions of responsibility, the balance between personal and professional life and by rethinking managerial culture with all African staff members.

The Euromoney "Best Bank in Africa for social responsibility" award proves the convictions of the Group concerning Africa, translated into tangible actions to contribute to the positive transformation of the continent.
