U20 Barthés Trophy

Societe Generale, partner of the Young African rugby players competition starting today

Today, Thursday 4 April, the first opening matches of the U20 Barthès Trophy will take place. Tunisia will face Kenya, while Namibia will defend its 2018 championship title against Senegal.

The U20 Barthès Trophy is an African rugby competition for young players under 20, opposing national teams from 12 African countries against each other. The event is organized by Rugby Africa the pan-African rugby federation.

Rugby Afrique is one of the six regional World Rugby associations, the international body that oversees the organization of the Rugby World Cup.

Since February 2019, Societe Generale and Rugby Afrique have partnered up for two years to develop rugby on the African continent, especially supporting rugby sevens competitions for women and young.

The partnership concerns more specifically:

  • The Get into rugby program, which aims to encourage the practice of rugby around the world for all audiences
  • The two official competitions of women's rugby, the Africa Women's Sevens, and rugby for under-20s, the U20 Barthès Trophy.

The winning team of the U20 Barthès Trophy will qualify for the under-20s World Cup in Argentina.
